Montessori at MVJIS

Montessori School in Marathahalli, Bangalore

Nurturing independent thinkers, curious minds and confident learners

At MVJ International School (MVJIS), we believe the early years lay the foundation for lifelong learning. Our Montessori programme provides a safe, secure and nurturing environment where children feel valued, supported and encouraged to flourish.

We recognise every child as a unique, capable and curious learner with the potential to contribute meaningfully to their own learning journey. Through respectful relationships, purposeful experiences and meaningful interactions, children develop confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging.

Uninterrupted play, exploration and discovery are at the heart of our approach. The outdoors becomes an extension of the learning environment, connecting children with nature as they grow socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Educators observe, guide and encourage while giving each child freedom to explore at their own pace.

A welcoming learning environment at MVJ International School A place to discover and grow
Four stages. One joyful journey.

Growing through discovery

From first explorations to independent research, each stage builds on children’s emerging interests, abilities and confidence.

Stage 01 · Early starters

Toddlers — Our Playgroup Explorers

Discovering the world through the senses

Around 2 years

At two years of age, children are naturally curious explorers who learn through their senses, movement and everyday experiences. Our Playgroup environment encourages discovery through hands-on exploration, sensory experiences and purposeful play.

As language skills develop, children begin asking questions, expressing ideas and communicating their needs and interests. Walking, running, jumping, climbing and other physical activities support movement, while parallel and social play help children gradually develop awareness of others.

Our goals

  • Develop emotional security and a strong sense of belonging.
  • Become familiar with classroom routines and age-appropriate expectations.
  • Build independence in self-care and everyday activities.
  • Express thoughts, feelings and needs with familiar adults.
  • Join play and learning with growing confidence and attention.
  • Begin developing positive social behaviours through peer interaction.
Stage 02 · Building independence

Montessori I — Our Emergent Investigators

Learning through discovery and purposeful activity

Around 3 years

At three years, children learn naturally through sensory exploration, observation and hands-on experiences. Developing language enables them to listen to stories, take part in conversations, enjoy songs and express ideas with increasing confidence.

Montessori I offers a rich, developmentally appropriate setting for exploring Mathematics, language, art, dramatic play, construction, and fine and gross motor activities. Carefully selected Montessori materials encourage concentration, coordination and independent learning. Stories, projects and outdoor experiences extend learning beyond the classroom.

Our goals

  • Develop greater independence, confidence and self-management.
  • Follow classroom routines and participate responsibly in groups.
  • Explore a broad range of interests while building understanding.
  • Develop phonetic sound awareness as a foundation for early reading.
  • Strengthen fine and gross motor coordination.
  • Build a positive sense of belonging and group identity.
Stage 03 · Asking new questions

Montessori II — Our Inquirers

Questioning, investigating and making connections

Around 4 years

At four years, children demonstrate growing self-control, creativity and curiosity. Imaginative play becomes increasingly complex, while developing language enables them to communicate ideas, describe experiences and engage in meaningful conversations.

Montessori II encourages children to observe, question, investigate and make connections. They gather information, compare, identify patterns and discuss observations. Learning supports language and literacy, mathematics, science, social sciences, physical development, creativity and social-emotional growth.

Our goals

  • Show increasing independence and confidence in making appropriate choices.
  • Develop emerging reading and writing skills.
  • Cultivate curiosity and a strong culture of inquiry.
  • Communicate ideas, thoughts and feelings verbally and non-verbally.
  • Strengthen reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Build positive relationships and awareness of emotions in self and others.
Stage 04 · Exploring ideas

Montessori III — Our Researchers

Solving problems and preparing for the future

Around 5 years

At five years, children become increasingly confident problem-solvers, communicators and independent thinkers. They approach more complex challenges creatively, explain their ideas, construct stories and engage with early reading, writing and mathematical reasoning.

Montessori III builds on these emerging capabilities through a rich, structured yet flexible curriculum. Hands-on experiences, Montessori materials, educational technology and child-led learning encourage children to investigate how and why things happen. Small-group experiences and individual attention help each child recognise their strengths, grow in confidence and become an enthusiastic learner.

Our goals

  • Recognise individual strengths, abilities and learning preferences.
  • Collaborate with peers by sharing ideas, questions and interests.
  • Approach challenges with confidence and persistence.
  • Strengthen independent reading and creative writing.
  • Express ideas, thoughts and feelings creatively and imaginatively.
  • Reflect on learning, progress and achievements.
  • Grow as an independent, engaged and responsible learner.
A strong foundation for lifelong learning

A confident beginning. A lifetime of discovery.

At MVJIS, the Montessori journey is more than preparation for the next academic stage. It helps children become confident, curious, independent and compassionate individuals who enjoy learning, understand their world and have the confidence to explore it.

From early exploration to independent research, every stage is designed to help children discover their potential and grow with purpose.
